Specialty Claims Manager

Position Overview:
As a Claims Manager – Specialty Claims (Remote, U.S.), you will oversee specialized claims functions and manage a team of claims adjusters and specialists. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of veterinary medicine, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reassess claims with adjudication errors
- Provide claim-specific feedback and data analysis
- Support other teams with escalations and claim determination questions
- Manage specialty claims tasks, including: closed claims movement, BDX errors, overpayments, appeals and reassessments, and licensing queries
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, biannual, and yearly audits (including Axis desk audits)
- Review and respond to DOI complaints
Team Management:
You will manage the following roles:
- Lead Claims Adjuster – Special Investigations: Oversee fraud and suspicious activity reviews, manage SIU vendor referrals, support investigations, and review high-value claims
- Lead Claims Adjuster – Appeals: Handle coverage determinations, manage appeal timelines, meet with veterinary staff, and communicate determinations to policyholders
- Senior Claims Adjuster: Adjudicate claims, review medical records, verify coverage, consult with veterinary practices, maintain QA and productivity, participate in SOP creation, and support other adjusters
- Claims Documentation Specialist: Provide administrative support for document requests, appeals, medical record reviews, and high-value claims
Required Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of disease processes and veterinary medical terminology
- Ability to read and interpret veterinary medical records and invoices
- Ability to identify chronic and acute medical conditions
- Adaptability in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Strong multitasking skills with multiple computer systems
- Ability to work independently while fostering teamwork
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities for complex medical/veterinary scenarios
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a veterinary technician
- Bachelor’s degree in veterinary science, CVT, or equivalent preferred
- Property and Casualty Adjuster license in good standing preferred; ability to complete and pass state adjuster licensing required
- Proven reliability and consistent attendance
- Availability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week, including occasional weekends and extra hours as needed
- Must be available to work Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours
